Puryear Adds Five Freshmen to 2018-19 Roster

Navy women’s tennis head coach Keith Puryear announced the programs five incoming freshmen. Puryear’s Class of 2022 was ranked 33rd overall in the TennisRecruiting.net rankings and the class was 13th among Mid-Major programs.

“We would like to welcome the newest members of the Navy Women’s Tennis program,” said Puryear. “We are looking forward to having them compete for the Blue and Gold. Each one of them have had exceptional junior careers, which with hard work and dedication I am positive will translate to successful collegiate careers as well.”

The 2018-19 season for Navy begins at the Stony Brook Invitational from Sept. 7-9. Last season, Navy posted a program-best 27 victories in dual matches, including an 18-3 mark at home. The Mids went 5-1 in the Patriot League to earn the No. 1 seed in the league tournament and finished as the 2018 Patriot League Tournament runner-up.

Katreina Corpuz (5-5 / Ewa Beach, Hawaii / Punahou School)
Attended Punahou School and lettered in all four years … Finished her high school career ranked 48th in the nation and a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net … Won the doubles state championship in Hawaii in 2015 and then captured the singles state title during the 2017 season … Was awarded the 2017 McEldowney-Mattias Award for athletics, academics and citizenship … Played high school tennis with Alyssia Fossorier who is set to begin her first year at University of California, Irvine.

Annalise Klopfer (5-11 / Palm Harbor, Fla. / Clearwater Central Catholic High School)
Attended Clearwater Central Catholic High School, where she played in No. 1 spot … Ranked in the top 100 of the TennisRecruiting.net rankings and listed as a four-star recruit … Took part in the Florida State Singles Tournament in 2016 and was selected as the Most Valuable Player and Hotshot of the Week … Member of the National Honor Society … Earned the highest GPA award during all four years of her high school career … Earned the Principal’s Award.

Meghana Komarraju (5-8 / Vienna, Va. / James Madison)
A graduate of James Madison High School, she lettered in 2018 and played at the No. 1 spot … During her senior season, she was selected First Team All-District, All-Region and All-MET… Listed as a four-star player and ranked in the top 100 of the TennisRecruiting.net rankings … Was an honors student during all four years at James Madison.

Kacey Moore (5-6 / Wellington, Fla. / Wellington)
During her high school career, she attended American Heritage High School and then Wellington High School … She is ranked 125th in the TennisRecuriting.net rankings and listed as a four-star recruit … She competed at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots for American Heritage and then moved up to the No. 1 spot at Wellington … Won the 2014 Florida State Singles Championship, and then won the 2015 Florida State Singles and Doubles Championships … Was an All-County First Team performer in 2015 and then was selected as a 2018 National High School All-American … Attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School.

Kristina Zieglar (5-7 / Ponce Inlet, Fla. / Atlantic)
Competed on the golf and tennis teams at Atlantic High School … Ranked 80th overall in the TennisRecruiting.net national rankings … Listed as a four-star recruit … On the tennis team, she played at the No. 1 position … Won the 2015 and 2016 2A Florida State Singles Tennis Championships … Also won the 2016 2A Florida State Doubles Championship … Her team was also a finalist in the 2A Florida State Team Tournament … Member of the National Honor Society … Graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2018.
