Three Terps Earn Big Ten Preseason Honors in Field Hockey

Three returning members of the Maryland field hockey team earned Big Ten Preseason honors from the league’s head coaches Monday. Senior Linnea Gonzales, junior Kelee Lepage and sophomore Brooke DeBerdine were among the student-athletes honored.

This marks Gonzales’ fourth straight year earning Big Ten Preseason honors. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2015 and All-Big Ten First Team honors last season. Gonzales is the Terps’ second leading returning scorer with 10 goals last season, including three in their NCAA Tournament run to the national championship game.

Lepage started in 12 of 22 games as a sophomore last year. She scored one goal in a game at Michigan State and notched three assists.

As a freshman last season, DeBerdine started in all 23 games and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

The Terps will open the season with a three-game swing in California this weekend. They will play at Pacific in Stockton on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET. The Terrapins will take on California in Berkeley at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, then will close the trip vs. UC Davis on Monday at 2 p.m. ET.

The Terrapins will host the 4th annual B1G/ACC Cup Labor Day weekend. They will host Duke, Boston College and Northwestern in the four-game event at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Maryland will take on Boston College at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 and Duke at 2 p.m. on Sept. 2.
