Kayla Robinson Named Patriot League Defender of the Week
Senior scored Mids’ goal versus #20 N.C. State on ThursdayCENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Coming off an opening week where the Navy women’s soccer team went 1-1 in a pair of challenging non-conference games versus No. 20 North Carolina State (L, 2-1) and Pacific (W, 1-0), the Mids were recognized by the Patriot League as one of their own, Kayla Robinson was named the Patriot League Defender of the Week on Monday.
A starting outside defender for Navy, Robinson kicked her senior season off with a bang on Thursday night as she got the Mids onto the scoreboard with a goal in the 33rd minute against the nationally-ranked Wolfpack squad. That goal was the first of her career. Robinson closed out her weekend by playing a significant role in Navy’s 1-0 shutout win over Pacific. One year after the Mids’ defense combined for 13 shutouts over 21 games, the team’s defense was up to the task versus the Tigers and tallied shutout number one of the 2018 season. Robinson was on the field for 66 total minutes against Pacific, including all 45 of the second half with the game sitting at just a one-goal margin.
This is the first career weekly award for Robinson and the first for the Navy women’s soccer program in 2018.
The Mids will be back in action this weekend with a pair of non-conference games. On Friday, Navy will host Stetson in women’s/men’s doubleheader with the women’s team playing at 5 p.m., while the men kick off at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the Mids will welcome the Terrapins of Maryland in a 6 p.m. tilt. Note the time change for Sunday’s Navy-Maryland game, as the matchup has been moved up an hour earlier than originally announced back in July.
